he Emerging Content Creator Workshop, hosted by the DStv Content Creator Awards, saw a remarkable turnout of a full capacity room on Thursday, 8 June. The event showcased the eagerness and enthusiasm of up-and-coming content creators to network, learn, and engage in meaningful discussions.
As a key event on the awards’ calendar, the workshop aimed to empower creators through knowledge sharing and provide valuable insights into the world of content creation. The participants had the opportunity to listen to industry experts, who shared their experiences and expertise, leaving the emerging content creators hungry for more information.
The workshop was not confined to the physical space alone, as it was also live-streamed on TikTok, ensuring that a wider audience could benefit from the valuable content and discussions that took place throughout the day.
The event featured an impressive line-up of speakers and panels, each bringing their unique perspectives and insights. The founder of the DStv Content Creator Awards, Manuela Dias de Deus, kicked off the workshop by emphasizing the importance of such events in nurturing the growth of content creators and recognising the sponsors who made it all possible—DStv, TikTok, 947, Sol, Workshop17, Spotify, and One-eyed Jack.

Ncebekazi Manzi, Podcast Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, led an insightful session titled “Let’s Talk Podcasts!” She provided valuable guidance on the podcasting landscape, encouraging content creators to venture into this increasingly popular medium.

The workshop also featured a panel discussion on “The Business Side of Content Creation,” moderated by Darren Sandras, Communications Director at One-eyed Jack. Shannon Valstar, Festival Director and General Manager at Steyn Entertainment, Ongeziwe Jonas, Social Media Coordinator at YouthFluence, and Omar Morto, himself a content creator, shared their perspectives on the business aspects of content creation.
Gail Schimmel, CEO of the Advertising Regulatory Board, shed light on social media advertising regulations during her session, “What Are the Regulations When It Comes to Social Media Advertising? Do’s & Don’ts,” providing content creators with essential guidelines to navigate this space effectively.
The power of collaborations was emphasised by Antonette Benting, Business Development Manager (Western Cape) at Workshop17. She highlighted the benefits and potential of collaborating with like-minded creators and brands to expand reach and impact.

Tebatso Maapola and Sinolwazi April, Multichoice Studio Reach Content Creators, provided top tips for emerging creators in their session, “Studio Reach: Top Tips for Emerging Creators,” hosted by offering valuable insights into the world of studio production.
947, the awards’ newest partner, announced their collaboration with the DStv Content Creator Awards during the workshop. They are on the lookout for their next content crew, a group of five of Gauteng’s hottest up-and-coming content creators. The winner of the Emerging Creator Award, now powered by 947, will join the station’s content crew and enjoy incredible opportunities.
he workshop included a TikTok Masterclass by Vivian Chuene, Content Partnerships Manager: Entertainment (South Africa) at TikTok, where she shared expert advice on maximizing the platform’s potential.
