Stepping boldly into the music industry with undeniable charisma and a fresh sound is rising star Sosoboy Fosho, real name Sonwabile Madonela. Known for his unique isiXhosa-Trap style—a fusion of Hip Hop, R&B, and Afropop—Sosoboy defines his genre as Afro-Trap, a culturally rich and globally resonant sound that’s quickly capturing attention.

With a rapidly growing fanbase on social media and mounting anticipation, Sosoboy Fosho is counting down to the release of his debut single titled Mine—a heartfelt, romantic love story told in isiXhosa.

“The song Mine is a Xhosa love tale about meeting someone new and deciding to follow my heart,” says Sosoboy Fosho.

Drawing inspiration from American trap culture but grounded in African heritage, Sosoboy brings bold, unapologetic flows layered with narratives that speak to the urban African youth experience—love, dreams, hustle, and culture—all delivered in a voice that’s as local as it is international.

The single Mine first gained traction when it was featured on e.tv’s hit series House of Zwide, going viral almost overnight. The buzz caught the attention of international label Asanda Empires, marking a major turning point in Sosoboy’s career.

“They played my song on one of the episodes. I posted it online and it just blew up. The reels kept gaining views, and that’s when Asanda Empires reached out. Since then, we’ve been working hard and making major moves,” he adds.

Q&A WITH SOSOBOY FOSHO

Where did the name “Sosoboy Fosho” come from?
“Sosoboy” comes from my first group called Monday. I added “Fosho” to put my personal stamp of approval—it’s my signature.

Why did you choose Trap as your main genre?
Trap allows me to blend emotional, heartfelt lyrics with hard-hitting beats. It gives me space to be real while still staying on-trend with today’s sound.

Who inspires you musically?
Burna Boy. The way he broke into the global market while staying true to his roots motivates me to do the same—in my own language, in my own style.

When did you know music was your calling?
I’ve known since I was young. Music has always been a part of me. I just didn’t realize the path would come with so many challenges.

What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Helping others and seeing them not return the favor—whether to me or anyone else—has been tough. But I’ve learned to keep moving, keep growing, and stay focused.

What’s next for you?
I’m currently finishing up my EP titled Pink Roses, which will drop soon after Mine. I haven’t confirmed any features yet—I’m still deciding who fits the vision best.
