Johannesburg, South Africa – Friday, 25 June 2021 – Nasty C releases rag-to-riches reflexive single with Jack.
Internationally recognised, Nasty C marks his sophomore single of the year with Jack. Described as a reflective single, Nasty C details his rag-to-riches and then more riches with the single.
In a continued effort to nuance his new persona Spank Daddy, Nasty C proves with Jack that the persona is not far removed from the Durban born rapper with masterful word play. “Jack” which connotes having nothing, is spun as a pronoun, as the rapper looks back at his journey to eventually being one of the leading voices of African hip hop.
The single in part is described as, “Nasty C swears that he’s not going back to a life of “roaches and bed bugs,” and worries that if the money has come to him this relatively easily, there must be a catch. In the same breath, contemplating on the adage that more money leads to more problems, he observes that he would much rather be faced with these new problems than the old ones rooted in poverty and lack.”
About Jack:
Nasty C is in a rare reflective and introspective mood on his latest, Jack. Against the backdrop of a minimal instrumental featuring an intermittent refrain from a flute, the young South African rapper conveys how he’s been faced with a slew of wins and a large amount of success in a relatively short space of time, forcing him to take stock on what’s important. “These people ain’t playing my songs out of pity,” Nasty C raps, acknowledging that everything he’s achieved is a result of his outstanding talent and is not a result of handouts or charity.
