Following last year’s much talked about Hottest MCs list, MTV Base kicked off 2021 with the Hottest MCs New Wave round table. The 2-part special was a celebration of the freshest talent making a name for themselves in the South African hip-hop scene, judged by an esteemed panel of SA Hip Hop authorities.

MTV Base is proud to put on some of the hottest and biggest artists dominating the new wave and bringing fresh new sounds to the local hip hop scene. MTV Base Hottest MCs New Wave 2021 profiled the ones to watch in South Africa’s growing hip hop industry to determine once and for all who is the hottest MC.

The show was hosted by MTV Base VJ Tshego Koke who was joined by a panel of notable hip hop authorities. Panellists engaged in a fiery debate which included Hip hop heavyweight DJ Zan D, music curator Kabelo Makhudu, teen sensation Uncle Vinny, music and culture journalist Jade Kelly, DJ & creative Nikki Newlands and writer Misa Narrates.

Once the dust had settled and egos were put aside, only one MC could emerge victorious. Blaq Diamond took the coveted crown of the Hottest New Wave MC for 2021. The SA music duo, who are signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment,  have been making waves following the release of their debut album Inqola which earned them 2 SAMA nominations.
