The highly anticipated ACCES Music Conference 2024 in Rwanda was a landmark event that brought together industry professionals, artists, and creatives from across Africa and beyond. The conference, which focuses on fostering collaboration, innovation, and growth in the African music and creative industries, proved the perfect platform for Virgin Music Group (VMG), legendary South African producer Heavy-K, and DVPPER Digital to shine as key players in the global music business.
As part of their participation, VMG hosted a dynamic panel discussion that explored the evolving landscape of the global music industry, emphasizing the power of collaboration as a key driver of success. Heavy-K, renowned for his chart-topping hits and international collaborations, shared his wealth of experience, stressing how partnerships have played a vital role in his career. “Collaboration is the heart of growth in the music industry,” he told an engaged audience, highlighting how working together can open doors and expand artistic horizons. Damilola from DVPPER Digital stated that his collaboration with VMG was strategic in that he wanted artists to sign with a local label that had the backing of a global company. Still, we should not underestimate ourselves as Africans. “We are the secret sauce that makes these songs hits.”
In addition to the panel, VMG also hosted an exclusive open mixer event designed to spark creativity and foster new connections. The event brought together artists, producers, industry executives, and music lovers, creating an atmosphere ripe for collaboration. The night culminated in an unforgettable performance by Heavy-K, whose electrifying 3-Step set had the entire crowd on their feet and dancing.
Virgin Music Group’s participation in the conference underscores its commitment to supporting African talent and promoting the continent’s growing influence on the global stage. “The connections and conversations at ACCES were invaluable,” said Kay Ikazoboh, Country Manager, Nigeria, Virgin Music Group.
Nicole Thomas and Nick Ghelakis, Co-Country Managers, South Africa, Virgin Music Group added, “This event further reinforces our dedication to fostering the growth of African music, providing artists with the tools and opportunities they need to break into new international markets.”
With Virgin Music Group, Heavy-K, and DVPPER Digital continuing to push boundaries and champion African artists, it’s clear that Africa’s music industry is ready for the world stage. The ACCES Music Conference 2024 proved to be another milestone in the journey of African music’s global rise.
