Standard Bank embarks on a new journey with ‘Art, Siphakathi inside’

Art, by its nature, is for the people. It is the voice of the nation, accessible not only to the theatregoer, the music-lover, or the art-enthusiast but to the everyday citizen. Over the years, the notion of the arts as an elite and exclusionary entity has increasingly become a thing of the past, and today, brands like Standard Bank are shaking up the very notion of what art is and reframing it as something that’s inside all of us.

For Standard Bank, art is part of daily life. Not only is it on the stages, galleries, and theatres, but it’s in the streets, on your phone, in the way you dress. It’s the content creators and the radio DJs; it’s the graffiti, the music, and the movement of the city. With a legacy of support and investment in the arts for over 40 years, Standard Bank has a long history of helping the arts to thrive and remain accessible. Now, the Standard Bank brand moves into an innovative era of making dreams possible through Art, Siphakathi inside.

Through the launch of Art, Siphakathi inside, Standard Bank reiterates its contribution to recognising artistic excellence, supporting tomorrow’s artists, and reminding us that art is a part of our everyday lives. It is a commitment to encourage expression and appreciation not just from anyone, but from everyone – a message to audiences young and old that says: “Art exists within all of us. Come in, Singaphakhathi. Here’s your seat.”

Finding new ways and embarking on a journey to shake up the arts

After two unprecedented years of great change and upheaval because of the COVID-19 pan-demic, where the arts were postponed, waylaid, live-streamed, and reinvented, how do we begin to rethink our relationship to the arts and how it factors into our daily lives?

For Standard Bank, Art, Siphakathi Inside is a journey – a movement towards a place where the arts are bold, fresh, urgent, exciting, and enjoyed by all Says Standard Bank’s Head of Sponsor-ships, Desiree Pooe: “. We’ve been on this journey for a while – COVID-19 has forced us to think about things in new ways – and we’re committed to taking the joy of the arts to people from all walks of life. We want to break down those barriers and those old perceptions around the arts, to shake up what we think the arts is and what it can be”. Now, as Standard Bank embarks on a new journey – a movement towards a space where the arts are bold, fresh, urgent, exciting, and enjoyed by all – the invitation is there to join them and shake up the world of art and be within. As Pooe puts it: “It’s a movement, really. Art is inside all of us, and we’re inviting everyone to join us on this journey.”
