2019 Soweto Marathon in association with Old Mutual: PopUpGym success
Fondly known as The People’s Race, the Soweto Marathon in partnership with PopUpGym hosted in excess of 300 exercise enthusiasts at 9am on Saturday 13 July at the Nike Training Centre, Soweto.
The morning kicked off with a welcome from the Soweto Marathon Trust as well as PopUpGym Co-Founder Letshego Zulu and Khethiwe Mlangeni. Immediately thereafter it was Botle Kayamba with a yoga-inspired stretching session as the warming winter sun slowly defrosted those on the soccer pitch. The morning became hotter with a variety of talks spanning from dietician and author Mpho Tshukudu; 2018 Soweto Marathon winner Irvette van Zyl; Race director Danny Blumberg and Coach Parry on how best to Lace up and Conquer your Hard come Sunday 3 November 2019 at FNB Stadium.
PopUpGym brought with them their spice, energy and expertise spanning across classes including JabKick and Pantsula dance by brothers Thabo and Mpho Kunene – the ultimate mix to get into shape for race day so says co-founders Letshego Zulu and Khethiwe Mlangeni;
“We rocked Soweto today: A huge thank you to Soweto Marathon and all the fabulous fans out there that braved the winter chills and upped their heartrates all in the name of Conquering their Hard for this year’s race. Today was about celebrating our beautiful country, our lives and our health: We’re personally extremely proud of another successful event.”
