The 2025 GQ Men of the Year Awards took place last night at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg, where an exclusive audience of 50 distinguished guests gathered to celebrate South Africa’s most influential trailblazers. The ceremony recognised leaders who continue to redefine the country’s creative, cultural, and business landscape, with Africori taking centre stage as Sjava received the prestigious Excellence in Music Award.

Sjava’s accolade follows the widespread success of his September release, Uyena 2.0, a project that firmly reinforced his standing as one of South Africa’s most versatile and impactful musicians. Seamlessly transitioning from rap to Afropop to gospel, Sjava has built a body of work defined by range, depth, and cultural resonance.

Reflecting on the honour, Sjava shared his appreciation:
“It means so much to sit in a room with people who consistently support my work and the work of everyone being celebrated tonight. The world is often quick to criticise and tear others down, so moments like this remind us that we are doing well, that what we create matters.”

Each year, the GQ Men of the Year Awards spotlight visionaries, risk-takers, and cultural forces who influence how South Africa presents itself to the world. The 2025 cohort represents ambition, courage, and purpose—leaders and innovators shaping the future of business, sport, entertainment, design, and music.
