SAMRO is once again dedicating resources to the Music Creation Support Fund (MCSF) to help you, our valuable Members, with resources to create new musical works that will enable you to earn an income. The MCSF will provide a micro-grant of up to R25 000 to 100 qualifying members totalling R2.5 million. Since its inception in 2021, the initiative has distributed over R4.5 million to more than 200 qualifying SAMRO members.

The MSCF aims to contribute towards creating new and original musical works that have not been published nor publicly performed or broadcast. Additionally, SAMRO recognises the gender disparities in the music industry and encourages more women composers to apply for the MSCF. In 2022, only 62 applications from women met all the criteria and went through the adjudication process compared to 308 from men out of the 586 applications received. SAMRO believes that equal opportunities for female composers are essential for promoting diversity and inclusivity in the industry.

HOW TO APPLY?

  • Applicants are asked to complete the online application form, outlining the creation of a new and original musical works.
  • A new and original music work is one that has not been published, publicly performed or broadcast, and can include a new original composition, or the completion of an unpublished work – for example an EP, album, video or score.
  • Applications will be assessed on merit by a committee of music industry professionals based on several criteria, including whether the work is a new and original concept, how likely the final product is to succeed and how realistic and implementable the work plan is.

The adjudication committee’s decisions will be considered final.

Members who have previsouly received MCSF support can apply, but priority will be given to successful applicants who have not yet received MCSF support. Full and Associate SAMRO Members can apply by clicking here.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 12 May 2023, at 17H00 (5 pm) – late proposals will not be accepted. The final projects should be completed no later than 31 September 2023.
