1. VuzuHustle was one show that gave aspirant hip-hop artists in Mzansi entry into the scene, how has that opportunity impacted your career?
Vuzu Hustle gave me a career in the mainstream.. By God’s grace I’ve still been able to leverage opportunities from that foundation. I’ve gone to foster solid relationships in the industry and start my own businesses since the show. I’ll forever be grateful …. But now this is a new BIGSTAR JOHNSON, New team , new vision , new steam .
2.The music industry has evolved over the years, what are the current influences behind your new release? Just the overall South African sound , the South African narrative.. I’m influenced by my own personal experiences and local flavour in production. I genuinely feel like I’m just adding my contribution to the fire that’s already out.
3.How has your journey in the industry shifted your perception about the music and overall entertainment business at large? I’ve been blown away , extremely disappointed, celebrated , underrated, signed to majors , independent and were still here throwing hands … I still music with all my heart but have disconnected emotionally from the numbers game cause that’s what the game really is … But music is really about connection and I’m still out here trying to connect .
4.Musicians always aspire to collaborate with new/old local & international artists, name the artist & elaborate on why you would want to work with them ? I’ve had the privilege of working with some of my favourite artists in the country .. I guess now I’d be interested to see what myself and Kabza Da Small would create… I see his fiddling with HipHop, so you never know.
5.what is the name of your new release? Campaign features Yanga Chief, Loki and Sizwe Alakine.. looking forward to dropping it …. Really wanted to bring back the era of collaborations .. where we just go off but wanted to go off honestly… It’s a ‘ STAY REAL CAMPAIGN ‘ , regardless of everything we go through.. we’re saying stay true .

The real will surface to the top … You can’t hate on originality .

9.What is your word of advice to all aspirant musicians?
On the road success you will need both discipline and consistency because without discipline you’ll never start but without consistency you’ll never finish – Denzel Washington.
