Speaking of good times with great people, in the spirit of SUSTAINABILITY DAY, we’d like to share a little about one of the longest serving and most progressive members of our #JWxRTD friend-group.

CAN DO! is the consumer facing brand for Nampak Bevcan – Africa’s largest can manufacturer of aluminium beverage cans.

Since their inception they have been relentless in their commitment to inspire and empower the youth to make daily decisions that positively affect the future of not just ourselves but also the environment – all under the umbrella of sustainability.

This year, many of you would have encountered our awesome Paint, Sip & Plant activation at the festival in CPT – a collaboration with our official Sustainability Partner CAN DO!.  But our journey with them began way back in 2018.

The collaboration was seamless from the get-go. We immediately connected because of our mutual commitment to developing, supporting and cultivating the future through meaningful experiences. They wanted to save the world; we wanted to provide the theme music.

Our main stages in 2018 and 2019 were brought to you by CAN DO! They were the wind beneath our wings and if you were there, you understand how epic a collaboration that was.

But it was in 2019 that we really did something special. The introduction of the internationally awarded, industry-defining CAN CUP – a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic beverage containers  – not only made us the first festival on the continent of our kind to officially become plastic free, we had a ball doing it with you all!

To date, Nampak Bevcan’s forward-thinking initiatives have also served as a springboard for numerous multi-faceted innovations in the sustainability, technology and social arenas. These include our Unbreakable Entrepreneurs series – a fund that has helped finance the dreams of some of South Africa’s most enterprising young minds; 2020’s thought-provoking WHAT IS YOUR NATURE? national billboard campaign; the virally consumed uMAMA and uTATA advert series; the highly awarded UNBREAKABLE documentary series featuring musical icons Busiswa, YoungstaCPT and Muzi; and the launch of trendsetting content portal CAN DO!TV.

Though the saving the planet is very an intimidating idea for any individual, we aim to convey that everyone can make small decisions on a daily basis that will have a big impact in a positive direction.
