Lonyaka is a bop whose lyrics is a reflection of how most of us felt about the year 2020. The musical duo detail how we all believed that 2020 was our year, but- the pandemic struck.

The conscious bop marks the first of many singles scheduled for release this year.

The single is their follow up single to their 2020 hit single, Ng’delile, featuring DJ Steve.

About Love Devotion:

Love Devotion is a duo that hails from the city that birthed Gqom Music, Durban.  Love Devotion is composed of Dulcie Mthembu and Kwenzi Madwe. The two these past few years have been working on their sound as a duo following the subsequent move of former band member.

Last year Love Devotion focused on establishing a following for themselves through the release of the hit single, Ng’delile. The single not only saw them travel the length and breadth of the country. But saw the duo form relationships with musicians such as DJ Mvzzle, DJ Sox and Mshega. Hopefully, the newly formed relationship will yield a few collaborations.

About Lonyaka:

Lonyaka (meaning this year) is a fusion of kwaito, Afropop, gqom-inspired house music as well as some hip hop, with dance music at its core.

On the track, the Love Devotion pair reflects on the unpredictability of life and how things can go wrong, even with the best of intentions. The track is equal parts upbeat and melancholic, ending with an inspiring message, as Peekay shows off her skills, spitting an uplifting 16-bar rap at the bridge.
