Johannesburg, South Africa – Friday, 25 March 2022 – IDOLS SA S9 WINNER MUSA DELIVERS BALLAD DEDICATED TO JOANNA.
It has been over four years since Idols SA, season nine winner Musa released a full-length album. Since then, the hitmaker has issued chart-topping singles such as Bophelo, with the great late Tshepo Tsola, and 2020’s Wozala, featuring Ntsika and Tshego AMG. Moreover, in 2020, he released Thandiwe, a love ballad by the Mthande hitmaker that was dedicated to his love interest.
Keeping with the tradition of making music for lovers in his first official release of the year, Musa releases Joanna. A string-led mid-tempo single anchored by the hard-hitting bassline of the track. Accompanied by complementary harmonies, Musa sings about how he has finally found the one with Joanna. The singer-songwriter goes on to sample Dr. Mbongeni Ngema’s Stimela, as an intertextual reference.
Joanna is romantic, while being nostalgic about not only love but the tradition of classic Afro-R&B releases. Joanna is taken from Musa’s upcoming studio album Backroom which promises to blow his fans away whilst introducing them to a plethora of summer hits and wedding songs for the upcoming season.
