25 AUGUST, CAPE TOWN – Last night, boundary-pushing, gender-non-confirming Zimbabwean-Ethiopian rapper Hanna Kuruneri released the artwork and official date of when you can expect her highly anticipated mixtape The Girl In The Durag. On 9 October she will be releasing a new body of work since she found major success winning 2019’s #emPawa100 competition and securing a spot on Red Bull Music’s Lift As You Rise.
Stumbling into the limelight during her time at the University of Cape Town, Hanna immediately rose to the occasion, striking up the interests of Nasty C and DJ Clock after posting a video of herself rapping on Instagram. Since then, the social media-savvy student became a firm favourite continent-wide, championing an abundant knowledge of her place in this world with a sense of limitless self assurance. The Lift as You Rise campaign saw the opportunity to record two songs with features by Nasty C and Tellaman come to fruition.
This month the Cape Town-based rapper covers the August issue of Hype Magazine, officially inducted into their Freshman Class of 2019.
More info on the upcoming project coming soon.
