Johannesburg, South Africa – Friday, 26 November 2021 – DJ ZINHLE RELEASE SOPHOMORE SINGLE, SIYABONGA.
While we can always expect an annual anthem from the leading female DJ in Africa, DJ Zinhle; think Indlovu and Umlilo. Never could we expect 2021, to the year that keeps on giving as the Era front woman and owner marks the release of her sophomore single this year with the spirituality inclined gospel inspired house track, Siyabonga, featuring Black Motion, Kabza de Small, and Nokwazi.
The Boulevard boss started the year musically with the release of her reunion single with Umlilo collaborator, Rethabile, on the maskandi influenced Zulu celebratory track, iNtombi Yo Muntu. However, following her new milestone, it seems that DJ Zinhle opted to focus on being thankful and creating a family-based song considering being a new mother and her continued success in all facets including music, business, and personally.
Siyabonga, plays into a different pocket than the expected releases from DJ Zinhle. Known for progressively building songs with the arrangement. On Siyabonga, DJ Zinhle let the message sung by the rousing voice of Nokwazi take precedence. She also let the afro-house and tech nuances of Black Motion introduce the song, while the musicality of Kabza de Small is seen through the minimalistic approach to the arrangement and choice of instrumentation.
One review of the track echoed the sentiments of the charting song by writing:
“Lengoma ifike iku phaphise maseke iyaqala iba personal (Initially starting off like a groove anthem, the song then gets personal), and you think of everything you’ve been through and survived, and you start to see God’s grace mase uyalila (and you get emotional all over again).”
The single is available across all DSP.
About Siyabonga:
DJ Zinhle has established her niche through curating uplifting house tracks. With her new single she fully steps into her pocket with the praise and worship influenced mid-tempo house single, Siyabonga. Collaborating with Black Motion, the duo introduces afro-tech elements with the synth drums. Kabza De Small’s musicality with producing musically inclined house tracks is heard through the transitions between when the vocals take precedence over the beat. Every now and then interchanging seamlessly.
Nokwazi’s rousing voice is the vocal drive of the song as her vocals change the pace of the song and anchors the harmonious backing vocalists. Additionally, DJ Zinhle’s love for a progressively dynamic song is clear as every break indicates a change in the push of the song. Moreover, with Siyabonga, she declines the listener a crescendo as the single continually pushes forward until the end.
