Amapiano pioneer, De Mthuda gave fans a sample of Emlanjeni with Sir Trill, featuring Da Muziqal Chef and fans wanted more. So much so the single became a hit without a formal release.
Finally making the song available for streaming and downloads, De Mthuda officially releases the hit. The single marks a reunion of the John Wick magical trio, therefore it is no surprise that the single is a hit.
The trio continues their journey of making amapiano palatable to the rest of the world, by adding nostalgic melodies and patterns to Sir Trill’s ability to make “Tsotsi taal” rhythmic. De Mthuda instrumentally revisits the origins of amapiano with a mid-tempo string led melody. The signature amapiano percussive beat plays as a second layer as it straddles between that and a synth bass. The strings function as the lead vocalist while Sir Trill gives words to the melody.
The alto crooner sings his version of maskandi mixing mysticism and storytelling. As if talking to the skies, Sir Trill asks for the rain to stop so he can finally make his way to the love interest. He affirms that he will wait for her where they always meet, by the river.
