Johannesburg, Friday 21 August 2020 – Soweto born award winning copywriter and musician Bongani Ntombela better known as Bongeezy released his latest Boujee Rap single titled Konnichiwa on 21 August, the title is taken from the Japanese phrase meaning “Hello” which also references Japan as a place that’s synonymously known as the land of the rising sun. This single represents his reintroduction of his life in the music industry and the triumphant testimony of overcoming setbacks.
This self-proclaimed inventor of Boujee Rap has an electrifying hip hop sound that celebrates his upbringing and life in Soweto. “I fused this greeting phrase with my mother tongue isiZulu to come up with a chorus that speaks to being thankful to God for a new day. The song also speaks to a new dawn in my career as a musician. Despite the setbacks I’ve faced in life, I’ve been able to pick myself up and get going because this life is for the living,” says Bongeezy.
His first offering, “Bright colours EP” was released in 2014, which was later followed by his debut single, “Kumanzi Phansi” and it’s cutting-edge video HERE, a single that finds the young artist putting an emphasis on his unique view of how things should be in the world of music. His truth serum ways have afforded him the opportunity to work and perform on the same stages as some of the most legendary hip hop acts in the country, including the likes of P.R.O. Infa (Skwatta Kamp) and Bozza (Skwatta Kamp). Through these efforts and collaborations, it is easy to see the Soweto native is dedicated to growing the legacy of vernacular rap and taking it to new heights.
Konnichiwa is taken off a full-length project currently in the process of being completed. This single features male vocalist Nkosinathi Sibanyoni aka Siba and was produced by Zimbabwean producer Douglas Katehwe from 9thAudioBeats, who is known to have worked with Reason and many other talented musicians on the continent.
