Johannesburg, South Africa – Friday, 17 September 2021 – A retrospective look on celebrating HHP’s 41st birthday.
Forever inspirational and always treasured, Jabulani “HHP” Tsambo celebrated what would have been his 41st birthday on Tuesday, 14 September 2021. His wife and entrusted custodian of his memory and music, Lerato Sengadi ensured that the memory of the pioneer was not forgotten but celebrated and honored.
To kick off the week’s celebration, Sengadi hosted an invite only celebration, aptly named “Jabba Jam”. The now becoming annual event is created and curated by Sengadi for friends and musical peers to celebrate the life and music of one of the founders of Motswako. She has promised to include fans in the 2022 installment.
In attendance this year were leading stars like Silkour, Shugmakx, Moozlie, Speedsta and Da L.E.S, to name a few of the peers which attended the intimate event. Guests arrived dressed in black, as the dress code stated “Blecke ke Colour Yamanyora”. The guests danced to the beats of DJs, Akio, Voodoo, Ndubble and Jabba’d longtime producer and collaborator, Thasman.
Thasman is also behind the new single released in honour of HHP’s 41st birthday, Nkaofa 2.0, featuring Focalistic. Sengadi, who executive produced the banger, explained the purpose of the single as an ode to her late husband and to pay homage to the impact that Hip Hop Pantsula made in the industry.
Featured rapper, Focalistic marveled at the opportunity of having a single with the first hip hop artist to win a SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award by reflecting that:
“Firstly, it’s crazy to recreate a moment that you never thought would happen and secondly to come out with such a beautiful song that you can be proud of for years to come, even posthumously! For me it was an anointed moment! I’d like to thank Lerato & I’d like to thank Thasman.”
Following the song’s release, it has already garnered attention and fulfilled the purpose intended by Sengadi, which was to ask:
WHAT WOULD SUMMER BE WITHOUT JABBA!
