on Twitter, Mzansi’s #1 Kelvin Momo has released his brand new studio album, Amukelani.
Born Thato Kelvin Ledwaba, Kelvin Momo is a songwriter, producer and DJ from Soweto. He is most recognized for his soulful and velvety contribution to amapiano, earning him the pioneer title for “private school amapiano” a subgenre that has taken the world by storm.
Fusing elements of jazz, soulful deep-house and distinctive toplines, Kelvin Momo’s production reputation has glistened and revolutionised amapiano, shelving his private school as a more expensive subgenre of Yano.
First introduced to the masses through his 2019 and Moja Café anthem, Abantu Bethu . Kelvin Momo has produced albums that have birthed a new wave of artists and producers including Yumbs, TNK and Babalwa M just to name a few.
Amukelani, a Xitsonga word which translates to “accept” is a 26 track album, carefully curated for Momo’s cult followers. The brand new album went live at 00:00 CAT and has broken all amapiano records that where set by his predecessors.
Amukelani is an euphonious album that lures in fans, into a world of mystique and dark jazz elements. On the album Momo enlisted fellow record producers, Jay Sax, Yumbs, the infamous Sipho Magudulela and Mas Musiq to birth a safe space for vocalists such as Nanette, S.O.N, TBO, Tyla and Mawhoo to provide timeless classics.
