Singer-songwriter JP Cooper releases his long-awaited third studio album “Just A Few Folk”, on 13th February.

Today, he announces his new single “Sad Song”, featuring iconic British singer-songwriter Gabrielle, released 16th January. Speaking on the collaboration, JP says: “I’ve always wanted to work with the artists I grew up listening to, the voices that shaped the soundtrack of my early years.” Gabrielle adds: “I’ve always loved his voice, so getting to be part of this track feels really special, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.” The accompanying music video will be released on the same day, directed by rising talent Lea Otovic.

Produced by Cam Blackwood, and co-written with Mr Hudson, Simon Aldred, Jamie Hartman, RØRY and Neil Ormandy, “Just A Few Folk'” is a beautifully crafted body of work, recorded entirely to tape at renowned London analogue studio Toe Rag Studios. The album speaks of everyday stories and experiences – family bonds, personal relationships, intimate moments. “Diamonds and Gold” is a soulful dedication to his wife, while “Sad Song” is a breakup song, reframing heartache. He reflects on memories of growing up in Middleton, Manchester on “Waiting on a Blue Sky”, and the lead single “Summer of Love” blends retro soul, 70s-inspired grooves and JP Cooper’s signature rich vocals.

“This record feels like a turning point for me — I wasn’t thinking about radio, labels, or what might “work,” I just followed my dopamine. At the beginning of this project, my good friend Mr Hudson was in almost every writing room, we’ve had a partnership since ‘September Song’. I shared early sketches with Cam Blackwood, whose energy and excitement for the project was infectious. It was important to us that this album felt as human as possible, especially at a time when so much of music and art is being shaped by AI. So I took the band into a studio with no computers, only tape, everyone played together in one room. I also knew I wanted choral arrangements, so I worked with my old choir master Wayne Ellington and recorded with the Durban Gospel Choir in South Africa. ‘Just A Few Folk’ is the most personal collection of music I’ve ever made, and I hope when you listen, you’ll feel the same freedom, humanity, and joy that I felt while making it”, JP explains”
