Grammy-nominated prolific rapper Wale released the latest single off of his highly anticipated eighth studio album, set to drop later this summer. The single, titled “Where to Start,” produced by Hollywood Cole, is out now via Def Jam Recordings.

“Where to Start” is Wale’s second song release of 2025, following his somber, bluesy record “Blanco” that came out in March. Sampling the classic R&B/Soul hit “I’m So Into You” (1992) by American R&B vocal trio SWV, “Where to Start” explores Wale’s chemistry and passion for a woman who challenges his views on love. In this single Wale delivers expressive verses reflecting on this woman who not only understands him, but also reignites emotions he hasn’t experienced in a long time. Wale’s poetic flow comes to the forefront as he raps, “I don’t know where we’re going but I just want to go until the end. I’m unthawing this heart that I never thought I’d ever use again”.

Wale explains, “‘Where to Start’ is the soundtrack to new love. It captures the excitement, uncertainty, and hope that comes at the start of a relationship. It’s also about feeling seen by your partner in ways you didn’t expect, and celebrating the depth of that connection.” The accompanying visualizer, partially influenced by the hit Netflix show FOREVER, shows Wale and a love interest portraying that new relationship spark during a vinyl listening party – giddily sharing each other’s company.

As one of the DMV’s most celebrated MCs, Wale has collaborated with chart topping artists including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, SZA, Miguel, Rick Ross and more. Wale returned to music in 2023, following a brief hiatus, with a new deal under Def Jam Recordings. His return was marked by a feature on Odumodublvck’s “Blood On The Dance Floor” which went #1 in Nigeria for 8 weeks. Peaking #1 on Billboard 200 with its 2015 release, Wale’s acclaimed album, The Album About Nothing is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year.
