In May of this year, the dapper musician surprised his fans when he shared the sample of the first of his Amapiano inspired singles, Colours. The single was well received as it showcased that you cannot box the musician. In the build up to releasing his sixth studio album, Donald also teased the imminent release of his current lead single, Nkanyezi, featuring Lady Du.
The soulful single does not only mark the first collaboration between the R&B crooner and the Queen of Amapiano. But the single marks Donald’s 2021 delivery of another wedding anthem. The moody uptempo single despite its signature amapiano which breaks into an afro-pop spin as Donald begins to harmonize with the beat.
Lyrically the two artists tag team on the song as they highlight how falling in love frees one of their inhibitions and readies you to take the plunge and commit. Marking the second single from his upcoming album, Dreams. Donald released the 11-track album with the official drop of Nkanyezi, featuring Lady DU. For those wondering what Donald has in store with the album. Well, it is teased that:
“Dreams is a ten-track album influenced by Amapiano. But the music is signature Donald. The running motifs of the album’s production are the signifiers of amapiano with the use of percussion, the exploration of manipulating the long drum, the use of the pack and of course, love. On Dreams, Donald lyrically explores finding love, reminiscing about past loves and affirming himself and his success.”

About Nkanyezi:
Nkanyezi showcases how an established artist incorporates the current dominant sound into their own signature style of music. First, you begin with the basics. Introducing a song with amapiano motifs of the long drum and percussion. Second, you use the first break of the song to introduce the actual world you are inviting listeners into. This is as the song takes an afro-pop spin and Donald begins to harmonize with the beat, firmly settling listeners into his dream world.
Vocally, the single details of having found the one and being assertive in the knowledge that you have found them. The surprise of the single is not the addition of Lady Du’s rap verse. However, the harmonizing between the two artists is, as they carry the listener to the end of the song together in song. The single sounds like the soundtrack to wedding celebrations and summer.
