Kel-P unveils his latest instalment “Bully Season Vol.2: Pretty Girls Love Afrobeats”. Supported by several collaboration tracks released earlier this year, including “In My Feelings” with Kalash and “Warning!” with Blaqbonez, the new EP showcases the Nigerian producer’s unparalleled talent. Having made a name for himself by producing hits for Burna Boy, Rema, Angélique Kidjo and many more, the multi-award-winning artist started planting the seeds for a career as a performer in 2019, looking to establish himself as a great new musical sensation. Kel-P began accumulating a collection of self-penned songs culminating in the much awaited “Bully Season Vol.1” (2023) and now “Bully Season Vol.2”. These complimentary EPs shed a light on the producer’s rich and complex world as he continues to dominate his scene.

In this new release, the Afrobeats star explores his vision of the music industry, his rise to success and his relationship with women. His lyrics, sung in English and Yoruba, reflect his deep connection to Nigerian culture while highlighting his great international ambition. Moreover, the EP is the opportunity to host artists from all over the world and to draw inspiration from cities such as Los Angeles, Paris, Lagos, London and Accra.

Kel-P explains, “Bully Season Vol.2 is a project I’m incredibly proud of. A project on which I took the time to tell my truth and reveal a part of me that expresses the essence of my passion for music, something I hadn’t had the opportunity to do before. I can’t wait for my fans to make this new album their own.”

The new EP is heralded by the sunny and joyful single “Kel-P Vibes” which in its creator’s words, “defines me perfectly while also setting the tone of the project” and wonderfully embodies the spirit of Bully Season. Its upcoming video, shot between Paris and Lagos, offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Kel-P’s life and gives us a better understanding of the self-assured artist he is, surrounded by his friends and ready to conquer the world.

ABOUT KEL-P

After contributing to the global success of Afrobeats by producing for artists such as Burna Boy, Rema, Adekunle Gold, Davido and Janelle Monaé, and winning a Grammy for his collaboration with Angélique Kidjo, Kel-P launched his own career as a performer in 2023 with the Bully Season Vol.1 EP. The standout track, “One More Night”, which featured a sample from Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s iconic R&B hit “Dilemma”, was named by Rolling Stone as one of the “40 Best Afropop Songs of 2023”. Perfectly tailored for the dancefloor, the uplifting Bully Season EP series quickly propelled the seasoned hitmaker into the limelight. “As a human being, I feel like I’ve always had to bring out the Bully inside me to get what I want out of life,” he admits. “That’s what inspired the name, because it’s the story of my work, my victories, my losses, my relationships, my life in fact, that led me to this moment. »

Born in Calabar, Nigeria Kel-P lost his mother at the age of two and subsequently moved with his twin brother to live with his relatives in Lagos. Displaying a wide musical palette, he embraced the likes of Rihanna, Akon, and Ne-Yo before discovering Davido and Wizkid. Living in a Christian home, his extended family frowned upon his musical ambitions. As he obsessed over music, his passion dramatically amplified.

Eventually, he met Sarz who encouraged him to start making beats and recording. While he initially looked to Sarz as a mentor, Kel-P quickly honed his own deep and dynamic vision as a producer. He notched his first notable production with Solidstar’s “Eleganza”. Building a sterling reputation, he linked up with Burna Boy and produced ten tracks from the superstar’s 2019 blockbuster album African Giant, including “On The Low”, “Gbona,” “Killin Dem,” and “Pull Up”. His catalog continued to expand highlighted by “Ginger” [feat. Burna Boy] and “Donne-moi l’accord” for Dadju and Burna Boy, “Diamond Platinum” for Jeje, and many more. Expanding his reach, he produced “Faith” from Skip Marley’s Higher Place, scoring a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Reggae Album.” In 2022 he received a GRAMMY® in the category of “Best Global Music Album” for Angélique Kidjo’s Mother Nature. Earning widespread acclaim, OkayPlayer predicted, “For beatmaker Kel-P, the road to royalty seems inevitable,” and GRAMMY.com christened him “one of the hottest beatmakers and producers in the Afrobeats global movement.”
