Orlando Sneaker Care Technicians (OSCT) is a service that collects the shoes of customers which are cleaned and refurbished and then the new-looking shoes are delivered back to customers at their doorstep for a reasonable price.
Founded by Gontse Nxumalo in a quest to create an income stream for himself after spotting a niche market for a sneaker cleaning and shoe care service around his neighbourhood of Orlando East, Soweto.
We are basically in the market of selling convenience to our clients because we understand that most people do not have much time to clean their sneakers due to their busy schedules.
We offer services such as sneaker cleaning, Color restoration,nubuck/suede renovations, leather maintenance, heel maintenance, repairs and a bit of customization-the aim is to restore the lost love and relationship you once had with your shoes.
We do deliveries/pick-ups at your doorstep on request , we also do in-house calls at the comfort of your house. We offer brand activations onsite for your events. Consultation for brands regarding the sneaker care side of things . We are simply a one-stop shop catering for all your shoe needs in Soweto.
Besides the sneaker part of things to market our business we have hosted events, social runs, social runs and ISCAMTHO business talks at our space. The most exciting part is that we have build a model around the things we love most.
We have done activations with Bathu for their store openings, we have worked with Steers on the phandaprenuer campaign, we have collaborated with the biggest HipHop festival @BackToTheCity on a event aimed at celebrating the sneaker culture ekasi and the heritage of Orlando.
Currently we are part of the AMSTEL Entrepreneur Ikusasa Lam top 12 competition aimed at recognising township businesses who are on their way to reaching their goals.
We are simply a beautiful story of something that was started from nothing.
The reason we named the business after the township we was raised in was because we always had hope that something great will come out of Orlando and as a black kids growing up in harsh conditions and lack of opportunities, we also felt like we deserved the best things life had to offer. In a way, building our business here was part of contributing to the betterment of our community. Another inspiration was to show the ones coming after us that it is possible to come from eKasi(the Township) and still dream big, and that is why we built our stores without sponsorships or any backing but perseverance, hard work and the love from the people. We cannot keep waiting for others to come and build for us, we might as well do it on our own terms and create jobs for our people, all we have is us to be honest. Through this trial and error we have managed to create 6 positions for our people and as we grow we will continue to remove our brothers and sisters from the streets.
Our vision is to promote and make footwear hygiene and shoe care a part of every individual’s lifestyle by making our services accessible to everyone at every corner of South Africa one shop at a time.
Currently we have 2 stores in Soweto one in 1614 Molahloe Street Orlando East where we started out and the second branch is at 832 Mncube Drive , Dube, Soweto.
We are so invested in customer experience and the growth of the communities we operate within so our Store in Dube is just an expansion of our vision and what we stand for, one of the first collaboration spaces in Soweto where you can find brands like @HappyFeetJHB (Sneaker resellers)and @PhysicalArtdress(clothing brand) . We also partnered with @DopeandUp a platform that gives local upcoming artists a chance to showcase their musical talents so there’s so much community projects we want to be involved in terms of contributing to the betterment of society and evolving the culture to greater heights.
